Samobor Old Town

Samobor

This burg was built of stone on solid rock. The oldest structure of the burg is a slender and well built defensive tower from the 13th century. This is likely the best constructed structure of the entire complex, that also includes a palace, tower with chapel, two battery towers, courtyard, outer yard with pentagonal bastion and the palace called the Ajtić house. Early masters were the Babonić family, then the Austro-Hungarian king and, in the early 15th century, it passed into the hands of the Celje princes. In the early 16th century, it was taken over by the Frankopan family. Its final owners were the Erdödy princes and the Kulmer family. Today, this picturesque ruin is part of the beauty of the town of Samobor, due to its position over the main town square.
